2026 Carolina Sports Journalism Camp Application
2026 Carolina Sports Journalism Camp Application
Carolina Sports Journalism Camp 2026
The Carolina Sports Journalism focuses on classroom study and newsroom practice. The camp, for rising high school juniors and seniors, will feature visiting sports reporters and sports personalities. Students will take a behind-the-scenes tour of UNC’s sports media facilities. They will cover a press conference and experience what it’s like to work on a sports media deadline. Instructional sessions will include sports videography, sports broadcasting and sports writing. The camp is led by instructor Tim Crothers, former senior writer for Sports Illustrated and author of three books: The Man Watching, co-author with Roy Williams on William’s autobiography, Hard Work: A Life On and Off the Court, and The Queen Of Katwe, which has been made into a Disney feature film.
Registration fees for in-state students are $600 for those accepted to the camp who submit a completed application before Jan. 1, and $750 for those who apply on or after Jan. 1. Out-of-state students pay $1500. Fees cover lodging, meals, instruction, a camp T-shirt, and a water bottle. Students will be housed on UNC-Chapel Hill's campus. To apply, complete the following and include two references’ emails as designated and upload a short essay. Note recommended additional items that may also be uploaded. The 2025 priority application deadline is April 1. Applications will be accepted until May 1, should space remain available. A nonrefundable registration fee will be required for all students accepted to the camp and must be paid in full by May 15. The fee is $600 for in-state students who submit a completed application before Jan. 1, $750 for in-state students who apply on or after Jan. 1 and $1,500 for out-of-state students. Please do not include payment with this application; payment instructions will be provided upon acceptance.
