NCSMA divided North Carolina into eight geographic regions. Workshops are held in the various regions annually. Advisers and students are welcome in any regional workshop.

NCSMA will hold six regional workshops in 2012. Each workshop is offered by a co-hosting university or newspaper. Cost is only $15 per person, including lunch.

Among the experienced media professionals scheduled to serve as presenters at the conference include faculty members from Appalachian’s Department of Communication and Coop Elias, the marketing coordinator for the Carolina Hurricanes, and an award-winning former editor of the Agromeck yearbook at N.C. State University. This year, new sessions include the fundamentals of play-by-play announcing and using social media for reporting.

David Jackson, the “Voice of the Mountaineers,” will be the conference’s featured speaker at the closing session.

North-central Piedmont Regional Workshop
N.C. A&T State University, Greensboro

This year’s workshop will include not only the tried and true sessions from the past such as Newspaper Writing, Yearbook Design, , Newspaper Design, InDesign, TV Camera Basics, Photography, Media Careers, and Video Editing, it will also include Media and Sports, First Amendment Issues, and for the first time, Multiculturalism in Media. Additionally, this year’s workshop will bring back the Editors Only Session where all yearbook and newspaper editors participate in a roundtable-discussion sharing ideas, challenges and solutions faced by student editors.
