Regional Workshops

NCSMA divided North Carolina into eight geographic regions. Workshops are held in the various regions annually. Advisers and students are welcome to attend any regional workshop.

Fall 2020 Update: NCSMA will hold a combined virtual workshop in fall 2020. The workshop will be co-hosted with universities and newspapers across the state. Advisers and students are encouraged to register. Registration opens on Sept. 1 and closes on Oct. 9. Fee is $10 per person.


  • Opening webinar on Reporting in the Age of Covid-19 & Covering the Elections and closing webinar with Campus Tours of co-hosting campuses
  • Breakout sessions in seven divisions: Broadcast/Podcasting, Literary Magazine, Yearbook, News/Online, Art/Photography/Design, Editorial Leadership/Issues Forum and Advising Student Media

Fall Virtual Workshop

Co-hosted by Elon University, Queens University of Charlotte, N.C. A&T University and The Charlotte Observer.

Co-hosted by UNC-Chapel Hill, N.C. Central University, East Carolina University and The News & Observer.

9 a.m. – Noon

Required Forms:

All students attending our 2020 Virtual Fall Workshop must read and sign the Code of Conduct and have their parents/guardians read and submit the Release Form.

Students will not receive the Zoom link or password until the forms are received.

This year, UNC is also allowing digital signatures. Your students and their parents/guardians can choose not to print and just provide digital signatures, save the two forms and then upload below. Reminder: We must receive signed forms by Oct. 14.
