Three summer 2019 enrichment opportunities are offered at the UNC-CH School of Media and Journalism.

 

N.C. Scholastic Media Institute

June 17-20

The North Carolina Scholastic Media Institute will be June 17-20 in the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Media and Journalism. High school journalism students and their teachers are invited to enroll. Instructors from across the state and nation lend their expertise in online news, yearbook, literary magazine, photojournalism, newspaper, design and broadcast news. Leadership and creativity boot camps are also offered. Early bird registration fee is $200. For more information, contact Monica Hill, director of the N.C. Carolina Sports Journalism Camp

June 26-29

Rising high school juniors and seniors interested in sports and media are encouraged to apply to the Carolina Sports Journalism Camp, to be held at UNC-Chapel Hill June 26-29. The four-day workshop will instruct students on sports play-by-play, sports writing, sports photography and more through classroom study and newsroom practice. Students will take a behind-the-scenes tour of UNC’s sports media facilities and cover a press conference. Deadline for applications is April 1. The fee of $550 for in-state students and $1,100 for out-of-state students covers lodging, instruction and meals. For more information, contact Monica Hill, director of the N.C. Chuck Stone Program

July 7-11

 

The Chuck Stone Program for Diversity in Education and Media invites rising high school seniors with a career interest in journalism to apply for the summer workshop, held at UNC-Chapel Hill July 7-11. The 12 students accepted to the one-week program will learn from classroom study, real-world reporting, and professional mentors. Paid expenses include airfare, meals and lodging.
